Broken Promises

Remember Eddie asking Charles not to let him get shot this time?  Yeah.  Maybe he should have asked him NOT TO SHOOT HIM!  I titled this update "Broken Promises" because of that....but then I realized, heck, Charles didn't actually promise him anything, did he?

Oh, that Charles.

As weird and crazy as this whole thing looks...it wraps up next week!  I don't have a choice if I want to include it in the "Dark Michief" October compilation that Ka-Blam printing is putting together.  So, now, I have to finish this story in 6 panels or less.  I can do it...we'll see if I can do it well!

Anyway, the 'ectoglas' sheet that Eddie crashes through in this update gave me fits.  I think it turned out ok, but I'll bet there was a more dramatic spin I could have put on the thing.

...And what the heck is going on with that convict ghost, anyway?  Hmm....

Bad to Worse...

So it WAS a trap, all along.

Apparently, this ghost is one tough customer.  With its brawn and Zorbra's brain, could our hero have met his match??  You think it's bad now, but all I'll say is that next week....it gets worse!

Keep your eyes peeled next week as the story nears its ghost-filled and action-packed conclusion!

Bringing a pistol to a fistfight..

Ahh..you didn't figure it would be THAT easy, did you?  I doubt GZ did either, but y'know..you gotta try the simple solutions first.
When I came up with the idea for Ghost Zero, I decided that he was most decidedly a firearms kind of guy.  Sure, he can do ok in a fistfight, but he prefers pistols.  This screen shows why.  I know writers are supposed to be tough on their characters, but that boot-to-the-freaking-head panel made me squirm.  When something like that happens, I think to myself, what's that going to do to Eddie?  Will he be bruised and bloody?  Ouch.  Poor guy.

The 'Ectoglas' is a take on Plexiglas..and was inspired by the remake of the movie "13 Ghosts" (a favorite of mine..along with the original version).  I actually had an idea years ago for a 13 Ghosts RPG...and the idea has never quite died.  Instead, I'll put the bits and pieces into Ghost Zero's universe for you to enjoy.

As for Doctor Zorbra, I base his looks roughly on a young Orson Welles.  I can hear his voice when I read his lines.
Anyway, I'm very pleased that I was able to make 2 updates this week.  I'm am on schedule for finishing this by October 1.

Doctor Zorbra

Welcome Doctor Zorbra to the strip.  The good doctor and Charles seem to have a history, don't they?  I suspect that Zorbra knowing about the Spirit Ring is probably a bad thing....

I enjoyed working on this panel.  A screen without GZ shooting someone is like a day without sunshine!  I managed to get it drawn last night, but it took me another six hours today to get it inked, rendered and lettered.  That means, that, if I had a whole day to work, I could knock one of these out a day. 

Wouldn't that be an interesting life, hmm?

Anyway, taking days off of my day job has indeed sped up productivity.  Tomorrow, I'll flesh out the next screen in the story and start penciling.  I hope to have the next screen finished this Saturday.

Grim Work

Happy Labor Day!  I'm using today to get work done on the RADIO WRAITH short.  I've taken a couple of days off this week, so I hope to have two updates this week instead of just one.  I need to get them done, actually, because I have an 8-screen story to tell in 7 weeks!

Anyway, I hope you are enjoying the story as it develops.  I love telling shorts like this...they move along quickly, and it is a challenge saying just what needs to be said and no more.  I'd love to tell some stories in different periods in Eddie's life...I have an idea for a Korean War story that would be fun to do.  These shorts are like potato chips..you can't do just one! :)

I've also had the experience of looking at comics with an iPad...and I love it.  Honestly.  I think comics designed with the iPad format in mind will be the next, logical movement for comics.  I've found myself actually buying comics.....Marvel and DC comics, to boot...which I haven't done in years, simply because they look so nice on the iPad and purchasing them is so convenient.  I can't say I want to spend $2.99 on iPad comics, but I do think there is a price point that will make everyone happy.  We just need to become more familiar with how it all works.

Anyway, look for another update this week.  We'll see what dangers await GZ.....
